Located in the heart of the West Coast, Hokitika is a beautiful little town with a warmth
to melt your hearts. As you travel your way through the wide streets and feel the calm,
you must come visit our gallery.
Admire the variety of wooden bowls and boards, flax weaving, paintings, fine wool weavings, pottery, raku pottery, pounamu/jade, gold, silver, paua, glass, cards, paintings, prints
and so much more...
In the very early days of establishment, this gallery was
known as Hokitika Craft Gallery Co-Operative.
A gallery comprising of 18 members and fluctuated year by year.
The Gallery was well know for their
locally hand crafted artwork.
But time flies by as quickly as we can capture it and at
the start of 2019 the co-operative had 8 members left with many at their retirement age.
With that, the gallery too had to take its retirement.
We re-opened the doors
in October 2019 as Hokitika Craft Gallery.
After giving the gallery a lift to new life and under
new management by art passionate couple
Juergen & Monika Schacke, the gallery is a beautiful
space to fill the soul with incredible pieces of artwork.
We are delighted to be showcasing over 80 artists in our gallery. About 60% of artwork are locally made with some former members of the local co-operative returning.
And the rest?
The rest of our artworks are crafted by our talented
artists from the rest of New Zealand.
