Silk Painter

Janese Harnett at work Hokitika Craft GalleryAfter many enjoyable visits to the West Coast, I moved here in 2002 and reside at Rapahoe, a small beach settlement near Greymouth. I love the environment and enjoy other interests such as fossicking on the beach for jade and stones to tumble polish. Whitebaiting is another passion.

A friend introduced me to hand painting silk scarves in 1993 and at workshops, I experimented with different techniques. I love working with colour and find it stimulating and fascinating how the end product turns out.

Silk has a lovely feel to it, a fine but warm fabric. I still love, when time allows, to experiment with different ideas on scarves and garments. There is always the challenge to learn more.
