The inspiration for Fiona’s paintings is the West Coast landscape. The constantly changing atmosphere piques her interest and desire to capture the essence of the area. She loves the way sunlight peeks through the clouds and spotlights an area of interest. She likes to paint “plein air” getting out amongst nature. This brings about a more spontaneous effect and one which watercolour portrays well.
She continues to extend her knowledge of watercolour by attending tutored workshops with professional artists, and experimenting herself.
Fiona is a member of Watercolour New Zealand and likes to contribute to and take part in workshops and exhibitions. These are held mainly in Wellington.
Fiona has been a member of the Hokitika Craft Gallery since 2007. She enjoys the camaraderie and working for the common good of all involved.
