Woodworker

Andrew Austin

My products are made of native New Zealand timbers (primarily rimu), from recycled wood or from people who harvest trees felled by natural river erosion. It is satisfying working with a rare timber that has true beauty. In my designs I prefer simple lines and forms, drawing inspiration from nature. This is evident in the Koru coasters and trivets which are inspired from an unfurling frond of the New Zealand silver fern.
I am passionate about this cooperative Gallery (established in 1985), which I have been a member since 2003. I am keen to help work towards its continuing success.
